Prayer of Desperation – Part 2 (Hezekiah’sPrayer)

“…Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said: “O Lord God of Israel…You are God, You alone…Incline Your ear…and hear…the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God.” – 2nd Kings 19:15-16 (NKJV)

Have you ever felt threatened? Most of us, if not all, would have at some point.

King Hezekiah was threatened by the king of Assyria (Sennacherib), and many of us may have experienced the same thing – either at the hands of family members, a neighbour, a colleague, a supervisor, or even someone unknown. But King Hezekiah did not become immobile in fear; he ran to the temple and sought God. He laid the letter of reproach before the I AM and prayed.

Sometimes, like Hezekiah, we are maligned because of our God, but we can pray as he did, “Incline Your ear, O Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of (call the offender’s name), which he has sent [said] to reproach the living God.” (2nd Kings 19:16 – NKJV). In many instances, persons who reproach us do not understand that to do evil against God’s servants is flying in the face of God, for we have Jehovah Nissi who fights everyone for us. 2 Kings 19:20 (NKJV) says, “…Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.” Brethren, the battle is not ours but the Lord’s. (2nd Chronicles 20:15 (NKJV).

You may have a court hearing, a settlement issue, or a Writ; put it on the altar of the Lord, cry out to Him, and see the enemy flee in seven ways. (Deuteronomy 28:7 – NKJV). I encourage you today to “Position yourself, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord…” concerning your situation (2 Chronicles 20:17).

Scripture tells us, for it happened during the night, that God destroyed one hundred and eighty-five thousand soldiers from the Assyrian army after King Hezekiah’s prayer (2nd Kings 19:35). Imagine what God would do for you. Allow your desperate prayers to go up before Him, for He is attentive to our prayers and His hand is not shortened – Isaiah 59:1. He can deliver or save us.
